History of the Timbercrest Senior Living Community

The Churches of the Brethren in Indiana have a long and rich tradition of serving older adults. This ministry of service was established in Mexico, IN, in 1889 to care for both orphans and older adults. In 1942, the children’s department was closed and the focus shifted to caring exclusively for older adults.
The decision to build a new retirement community in North Manchester was made by the Board of Trustees in the 1950s when the buildings in Mexico, IN could not be adequately renovated in response to changing regulations.

The move to North Manchester resulted in a new community that opened its doors in 1968 to residents transferring from Mexico. To accommodate the needs of residents, Timbercrest became a modern retirement community offering levels of care and choices of residences. Timbercrest continues to evolve and respond to the changing needs of current and future residents.

Throughout its development, Timbercrest has stayed true to its ministerial roots, serving as a not-for-profit charitable organization. Although the location of the community has changed, Timbercrest remains true to its Christian heritage and the values that laid the foundation for the work that continues today.
